Letter Logo

The treads could probably do with a bit more work.

  1. Image: The way you approached this assignment was very thoughtful and discerning. A small animal with a big load, and that reflects the earth moving company. The ant image is very different than the rest of the logos, because it is so open, where the viewer must connect the shapes and this gives us a different dialogue. May be the image or texture of the tire tracts does not come through clearly enough. As one of the others suggested, the texture could look more tire track like. I am also not so convinced by the dark outline around the body – As a texture it could sit on its own.
Image and Word: Your use of this is starting to work but I am not sure about the shape on the end, I think it might be more about the size of the shape. I think the antennae work well, even though it might not be truly ant like, perhaps that is an uneducated view. But the word does provide the hint I need to identify the animal as an ant. I agree with thickening the lines of the antennae This is an excellent juxtaposition. The delicacy of the antennae and the heavy type face give us a great flux in ideas and image
Letter: Strong and bold. And the tires on the bottom are clunky while the letter has a street image in the negative shape, giving movement to the image. – perhaps the tire needs to be rotated so that the tires look like they are rolling along the ground, the gradient gives dimension to a flat image – is that what you were trying to reflect?
Word: This is my least favorite, and it is interesting that most of the students thought it was your best? The negative space works in the middle of the word but the actual shape of the letters are not correct. – the “T” and the 2nd part of the “N” are problematic. Also I did not see an earth mover in the shape of the letters. Perhaps some play with the color or use of a gradient?
Technical: these are great images but sometimes your lines are not finished or clear. With the ant legs you have 2 lines that are not connected. I understand they can be grouped but when doing a straight line just click then click where the 2nd one is to go. Also, in the body of the ant some of the gradients overlap the outline – you can use the align tool to center everything. To connect lines go to the open anchor point, select the anchor point that you want to connect, then shift select the 2nd anchor point. Go to the top menu bar and click on the dotted curved closed anchor point and that will connect them. Also watch your trapping: this is the connection between two shapes there should be no white space between 2 shapes and the light color should be under the dark color because if there is a mistake then the dark color will cover up the problem
