The book is completed.  I would have liked to have more text and explanatory material, but I didn't leave myself enough time - it went to print late enough as it was.  I thought the layout and organization came together pretty well.

Letter Logo

The treads could probably do with a bit more work.

Word Logo

I tried to bring in shapes from construction machinery.

Word and Image Logo

Using negative space to outline the head of an ant.  Unfortunately, when I expanded the logo I neglected to thicken the antennea, so they're hard to see from a distance.

Image Logo

I added color to draw the eye and for conceptual continuity with the other logos.  I tried to draw a parallel between segmenting on the abdomen of the ant and the tracks on a tractor.

logo draft

For the bug logo, I was trying to simplify the image to as few elements as possible.

Statement of Intent

My logo will represent a heavy equipment manufacturer called Ant.  They make construction and earth moving machinery, such as tractors, dump trucks and plows.  The name makes reference to the role ants play in modifying their environment and working in teams, while contrasting the small size of ants with the large size of heavy machinery.  The company will use a theme color of red (in reference to red ants), in the same way John Deere uses green and Caterpillar uses yellow as trademark liveries.

Digital Ant

The completed ant as a JPEG.

The completed ant as a PNG from the Illustrator file.  This may be a little distorted.

Completed ant as a PNG from a PDF.  This is obviously distorted.  And faded.

The source image.

Digital Banner

The original scanned-in banner.  The grey smudges are shadows from the folds in the paper.  I did not try to duplicate those.

The Illustrator version.

First post

The banner is up, and now I can't read the title.  Too much white.
